Seoul Metropolitan Government previously established “Foundation for Seoul's 100-Year Urban Planning” and “2030 Seoul Plan”- comprehensive development plans to strengthen international competitiveness between metropolitan cities by expanding the existing single downtown to three downtowns, each with specialized functions and roles.Gangnam downtown, one of the three downtowns, centered around Samseong Station and Yeongdong-daero area, is a region with high locational importance and growth potential due to Hyundai GBC site development, Seoul Sports Complex MICE project, road underground construction, Han River and Tancheon waterfront space development, and International Exchange Complex District development projects.
In the 2030 Seoul Master Plan, Gangnam downtown was designated as a hub for
international business and MICE industry development to strengthen global competitiveness.
