Anam-dong

In 2016, partnered with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Seongbuk District Office and a cooperative system centered around Korea University organized, Anam-dong has a comprehensive plan for creative talents to cooperate with local communities and launches a vibrant “Smart Campus Town.” Since then, Anam-dong is evolving into an innovative base that supports youth to continue creative activities, such as opening in 2017 a “Smart Startup Studio,” a startup space for youth in the Anam-dong campus town. More than 300 direct and indirect jobs were created through the Anam-dong Campus Town Project, and additional accomplishments such as patent applications and business registrations by the youth have been observed. Additionally, various programs such as entrepreneurship contests and regional festivals have been activated as well.

Yongsan Y-Valley

Yongsan Electronics Shopping Mall emerged as a mecca for sales of computers and various electronic products in 1987 as a result of the government’s effort to foster the electronics industry. However, it experienced a crisis due to its failure to keep up with the rapidly changing trends after 2000. These trends involved the transfer of distribution channels to online channels due to the development of the internet. The area of Yongsan Electronics Shopping Mall was designated as an urban regeneration revitalization area in 2017, with the implementation of various urban regeneration projects. Eventually, Yongsan Electronics Shopping Mall currently made history following its development into “Digital-Maker City Yongsan Y-Valley” by revitalizing the preexisting distribution industry and fostering new industries such as drones, AR/VR, and robots.
